...While the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.Luke 5:1–2
“…by the lake…”
Jesus engages with people right where they are at. In this passage we see that He was already at work in their world communicating the message of the Kingdom of God (Luke 4:42-44). For these men as they went about their daily routine they were on the verge of encountering Jesus. This was no longer going to be like any other day. Their lives would never be the same again. Sitting by the lake washing their nets may have been part of an important yet monotonous routine but they were about to discover what Jesus can do by using what they would have deemed as familiar things. Here is where people really begin to experience the fullness of being in relationship with Jesus. These men will never look at these nets in the same way again.
God is already at work in the world in which we live. He knows where we are, what you’re doing and how you’re going about it. What part of your routine do you need Jesus to transform?
